Write to your County Councillor

We want the Government to reinstate the BDUK Better Broadband Subsidy Scheme funding in England to enable alternative broadband suppliers across the country to get our kids online. There are schems still available in Wales and Scotland but the English one was discontinued in 2019. We don’t think that’s fair

Help us promote this cause.

Dear Councillor,

I am a local resident concerned about the effects of school closures on children’s education. I really do feel more needs to be done to help ensure as many rural children as possible with poor broadband can get online quickly, especially now, after the recent announcement that schools will be closed until mid-February at the earliest.

I am supporting the national campaign to reinstate the Better Broadband Subsidy Scheme, which provides funding to help families in England with costs for alternative broadband solutions from a range of different suppliers.

I am aware that the Leader, and other County Councillors, have been contacted by a company called SimRush which is leading the initiative to have this supplier-neutral funding reinstated. There is funding for this purpose available in Scotland and Wales, but nothing in England.

I am writing to ask you if you and your fellow Councillors would consider proposing a motion that the Council supports the reinstatement of the BDUK Better Broadband Subsidy Scheme (which sits under the remit of the Department for Culture Media and Sport), to help enable access to superfast broadband for schoolchildren who are being disadvantaged poor broadband.

It would be great if you could encourage Councillors to get on board with this to improve remote education prospects for children who do not have adequate access to the internet.

I look forward to hearing from you,

Thank you and kind regards,
